Diploma essay {part 4}

Praise is more then the words “hallelujah” and “glory”.  Do these words even mean anything?  After reading this chapter I have realized that it is not always about screaming those words, but truly praising God for his mighty deeds.

My whole life in church, I had always seen the grown ups scream “glory” and “praise”.  I would never do it, not because I was stuck up or anything. I just didn’t feel that was a way to praise God.
Like the example Juan gave in his chapter, I will also give an example.  If your friend planned your wedding and all you did was say “I praise you!” your friend would be confused.  “Praise me for what?” she would ask.  You would probably say “For making sure the wedding went so smoothly.” or “For all the nice decorations at the wedding”. What would make it even more confusing is if you were trying to praise your friend five years after your marriage.
But we do this all the time with God.  We say “I praise you!” and he responds “Praise me for what?”.  What do we praise God for?   We always say “God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good.” but we never say why.
If you did a big favor for your friend, for example you planned their wedding.  Would you only want them to thank you by saying “I praise you.”?  No, planning a wedding is a big deed and you would want much more then a “I praise you.”.  How do you know that those words actually meant anything?

In conclusion, praising God should be much more then a paragraph of neatly put words.  We need not only to acknowledge his name but also to thank him for his kind words.
