- Alleluia
- Praise the Lord
- Glory
- Blessed be the name of the Lord
- Amen
But do these words mean anything? For example, do you think that because of certain vocabulary we may use during prayer let's God answer our prayers? No, because if we don't actually mean the words coming out of our mouth, it means nothing to God.
Let's read part of the 150th Psalm-
Praise Him with trumpet sound
Praise Him with harp and lyre
Praise Him with timbrel and dancing
Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe
Praise Him with loud cymbals
Praise Him with resounding cymbals
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord
Praise the Lord! (verses 3-6)
Why all the noise? Because of his 'mighty deeds'
For example, if you saw your favorite singer walk down the street, would you run up to him/her and say "I praise you! Glory to you! I praise you!"?
Of course not! That singer would probably think you're mad. Instead you would probably walk up to him/her and say "I really enjoy your music. It's catchy and entertaining."
Instead of just screaming words in his/her face, you are actually pointing out positive things about his/her work.
But you have to mean it. If you went into church and they were singing "This is the day, this is the day, that the lord has made... we will rejoice and be glad in it."
But after the service, you look outside and notice it's raining. Then you complain "What a dull day."
But you just thanked God and told him you would be happy with day he just made!
Words don't mean anything if you don't mean it.
