Diploma essay [Part 2]

Here is the second part of this seven week series.  Hope you like it

The faith of the disciples were amazing. Imagine committing your whole life to someone you had only seen once or twice.  Nowadays, people can take days, weeks or even years to come to the decision of following Jesus.  And even though they had all that time to research, think about and decide, many of them never follow through with their relationship with Jesus.
When Jesus asked Peter to follow him, it felt like a ‘now or never’ moment.  He didn’t have time to even think for a few minutes about the change of events, even though his decision would change his life forever.  If you looked at this situation now, 2000 years after the event, you would probably say yes too.  But that is because you have lots of information of Jesus.  There are hundreds of books, websites and verses you can read up on to find out more about Jesus.  But in Peter’s situation, it was a stranger (which his brother claimed to be the Messiah).  Would you make the same decision if you were in Peter’s shoes?
The point is, even though we have more knowledge and understanding of Jesus then Peter did at that moment, Peter still took a leap of faith, and became a disciple.

What type of people did Jesus choose to follow him? Sinners, fishermen etc. which were also known as “low class”. Even though many people would consider them as useless, Jesus used them and gave them the best job anyone could ever ask for, to follow the Son of God.  That is another thing that takes  us away from discipleship, we think that we are too good to become a disciple.
For example, A young woman was dating a young man.  One day the man said that he was thinking of becoming a pastor because that was what God told him to do.  The woman was upset because she heard that pastors were poor and lived in trailers.  She dumped him after his first sermon and continued her life.  Years later the woman’s mother called the man.
“(Man’s name), I wish you would have married my daughter,” She said with sadness in her voice “Because she married an assistant manager of a restaurant. He got fired a year ago and now they are living in a trailer in my backyard.”
No matter what our plans are for us, God always has a bigger better plan, although it may not seem like a good plan to us.  For example, a young girl about two years old was trying to cook spaghetti. Her older brother came in and told her not to touch the stove or else there would be consequences.  As the girl gets older she will realize that her brother is smarter then her and will help her make better decisions in life. That’s the way it is with God. We may not understand but we have to realize that God knows more then us.
God has a plan for every one of us, and while he may not have an answer now, we still have to accept his decision.  Maybe your not ready for the answer or maybe your not fit for it.  For example, you ask your parents for a phone. They may think you are not ready for a phone even though it will help your life. They may think you don’t deserve or you don’t need a phone. No matter how we think of the situation is, we have respect God.
